Guide on Safety Practices for Real Estate Professionals

  • Client Verification: Before meeting new clients, verify their identity through a valid ID. It’s also wise to keep a record of their contact information.

  • Initial Meetings in Public Places: Arrange the first meeting with a new client in a public place like your office or a coffee shop rather than at the property.

  • Inform Others of Your Whereabouts: Always let someone in your office or a family member know where you are, who you are meeting, and when you expect to return. Utilize check-in systems if available.

  • Use Your Own Transportation: Drive separately to showings. This avoids being alone in a car with a stranger and gives you an escape route if needed.

  • Walk Behind Prospective Buyers: When showing a property, let the client lead the way. This prevents you from being cornered and keeps you nearest to the exit.

  • Open House Protocol: During open houses, sign in visitors, keep your phone handy, and familiarize yourself with all exits. Consider having a colleague with you.
